Lt Ken Ballard Memorial Scholarship
The Lt Ken Ballard Memorial Scholarship is made possible through the Lt Ken Ballard Memorial Fund. People from around the world have contributed generously to this fund in honor of Ken, who overcame a learning disability in elementary school and was on the Dean’s list in college. The Lt Ken Ballard Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior at Mountain View High School who has demonstrated a commitment to pursuing undergraduate studies in the field of International Studies or History. A $500, non-renewable scholarship will be awarded each year. The selection of the award winner is at the sole discretion of the Lt Ken Ballard Memorial Scholarship committee. Applicants will be judged on several criteria, including an essay REQUIREMENTS FOR Scholarship SELECTION · United States citizen or legal resident · 2009 graduate at Mountain View High School, Mountain View, CA · Characteristics which embody Ken Ballard’s ideals (excellence of character leadership qualities, and perseverance) · Preference may be given to a student who has shown academic promise and improvement thorough out high school, but is unlikely to receive other scholarships because of a lower GPA. Scholarship recipients must has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. · Applicant must demonstrate the potential ability for completing post high school education · Acceptance to an accredited College or University with stated objective to pursue studies in International Relations or History · With the completed application form (see link below), submit a 500 word typed or word-processed essay which summarizes why you feel you should receive this scholarship.
